Boneset, also known as Eupatorium perfoliatum is a perennial
native to North America. Common throughout the eastern regions of the
continent, it boasts a distinctive appearance with tall, upright stems adorned
with leaves that clasp around the base, giving the impression the stem is
growing right through them. This characteristic according to historical
accounts, led early herb doctors to believe it held properties beneficial for
setting bones, influencing its common name.
Boneset leaves have enjoyed a long history of medicinal use among various cultures. Native American tribes traditionally employed it in the form of poultices or teas to treat fevers and colds. This practice continued well into the 19th and early 20th centuries, with boneset tea becoming a popular folk remedy for similar ailments throughout North America Boneset is often used in poultice applied to the skin near broken bones.
